The Strong’s number assigned to the Hebrew word Har is Strong 2022 {har} a mountain or range of hills (sometimes used figuratively): – hill (country), mount (-ain), promotion. Reference: http://strongsnumbers.com/hebrew/2022.htm

“And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull.”(Matt.27:33)   You will find an interesting read here -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calvary

Golgatha is often referred to as Mount Calvary.  When we face trials we often refer to them as mountains. Facing the mountains in our life brings us victory.  Being on the mountain renews our faith, and it becomes a place where hope has a name.

If you do a Bible search and study on mountains, you will find that Jesus trekked several mountains. The first mountain top experience was where he experienced temptation.  We read about it in Matthew 4:8 – “Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor.”  Temptation is a huge mountain to trek, and go over, and declare victory on the other side.

We also have the Sermon on the Mount (read Matthew 5:1). This mountain was a place set apart for learning. How many lessons have the mountains in our lives taught us?

What about the mountain in Galilee, where Jesus met the eleven? You can find this in Matthew 28: 10 to 16.  What do we see from this passage? We see that Jesus set an appointed time upon a mountain. Friend, when you are struggling to overcome the mountain, remember Jesus is already there. He has set an appointed time for us.

There is the Mount of Olives. We see this mountain as a place Jesus often came to with his inner circle, and shared what was to come.  There is a verse in Luke 21;37, which caught my eye. It reads: Each day Jesus was teaching at the temple, and each evening he went out to spend the night on the hill called the Mount of Olives.  This mountain was a place of refuge and rest for Jesus. This is where he gathered new strength to carry on. He had a committed and set place to commune with God.  This is also the place where he submitted all things to and under God in the Garden of Gethesemane.  Over his time on earth, Jesus must have shed many tears over us on the Mount of Olives.

We read about the Transfiguration in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, where he went with three of the Disciples to pray.   So many times we have to be drawn to the mountain in our lives in order to remember to call upon God.  Just as God revealed the Glory of Jesus to the three, God will bring revelation to us upon our mountain tops, when we set apart time to seek him.

There is of course, Mount Calvary.  How many weary travelers who have been trekking cross-county come to a mountain and find that there is a passage through the mountains in order to reach their destination? Golgatha, the place of a Skull, became a passage from death to life eternal.  That passage led to promotion which means to go forward.  Jesus went forward doing his Father’s will, condemned to die on Calvary, and was promoted forward ultimately to his ascension into heaven.

Finally, there is a mountain I want to be on, and it is Mount Zion. We will see Jesus on Mount Zion– in Heaven, the new Jerusalem.  Revelation 14:1 reads: “Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father’s name written on their foreheads.”

How far have you traveled on the road with Jesus? This season as we have reflected on the Passion of our Jesus, let us join Paul in saying, “I am crucified with Christ Jesus; nevertheless I live: yet not I, but Christ liveth in me…..” Galations 2:20..
